ROODKAPJE project ROT(T)TERDAM. Het project bestaat uit 700m2 casco ruimte gelegen aan de Meent (119-133) in het voormalig Stadskantoor van Rotterdam. ¶

ROT(T)TERDAM is een 'culturele supermarkt' waar in verschillende ruimtes kan worden geshopt naar een '(di)vers' aanbod aan kunst. ROT(T)TERDAM presenteert maandelijks een nieuw aanbod bestaande uit tentoonstellingen, film screenings, Mini$hop, mode events, perfrmances, Works in Prgress, lezingen, feestjes en wat op dat mment nog meer van belang is. Een broedplaats die in lijn ligt met de beleving van steden als Berlijn, Barcelona & Istanbul. Een plek waar nieuwe ontwikkelingen in de kunst ontstaan en worden getond. ¶

'GOD IS A PLAYER' (SANDER REIJGERS (NL), DAVID ELSHUT (NL))

Sander Reijgers (1977) & David Elshout (1977) combineren hun benaderingen over Kunst & Voetbal en hoe te communiceren tussen verschillende lagen van de maatschappij in 'God is a Player'. 'God is a Player' gaat over de ongelijkheid TUSSEN het HOOFD EN de MAAG. De kunst wordt nog gezien als elitair, maar gebruikt dezelfde instincten op een cultureel meer gerespecteerde manier. ¶

Sander Reijgers verliet zijn artistieke wortels als schilder, om andere disciplines te onderzoeken. Hij versneed zijn oude schilderijen en textiel 3d voorwerpen. Vooral zijn 'balls' of late, combineren sexdoll elementen, schilderend fragmenten en sportkledings, brengen onderbewuste emoties teweeg. Sander, die in 2006 zijn HKU diploma behaald heeft, exposeerde in Galerie DE Praktijk, DE Hallen, Retort, DE Vishal, Streetlab, Galerie Kap Pur, Showroom MAMA en 3rd Ward, New York. ¶

David Elshout's werk wordt gekenmerkt door zijn losse tekeningsstijl, vintage pornografie en oorlog gemixt met extatische grappige elementen. Hij onderzoekt de traditionele geslachtsrollen en weet het op een ruwe en dwingende manier voor te presenteren. Verwant met de fysieke afmeting, energie, verschillende indrukken en de gevoeligheden. David is hoofdzakelijk gekend door zijn prestaties in vroegere collective Antistrot. Hij exposeerde in diverse galerijen en musea in New York, Miami, St. Petersburg, Moscow en werd genomineerd voor de Kunstbeeld ArtOlive Award in 2006. ¶

Een Politieke Graffitibattle:
Opening 8 juni 20.00u en 9 juni.

Achter de tentoonstellingsruimte van het project
ROT(T)TERDAM (nr. 119-123) kun je door de ramen de sloop bekijken van een deel van het voormalig Stadskantoor. De muur in deze steeg wordt door het kunstwerk omgedoopt tot alternatieve 'Wall of Fame', een 'Wall No Shame'. Een Wall of Fame is een plek waar graffitischrijvers bij elkaar komen om hun beste 'pieces' te maken. Via deze 'achterkamer' zal kunstenaar Eduard Von Lindheim een graffitiwerk maken dat kritisch reflecteert op de politiek. Von Lindheim wil met zijn project jongeren interesseren voor zowel de kunst als voor de politiek. ¶

Eduard von Lindheim is een creatieve duizendpoot, inspirator, intermediair en initiator van vele vernieuwende projecten. In de graffiti- en housescene vindt hij ruimte om zijn tekentalent te ontwikkelen en zijn maatschappelijke denkbeelden en vraagstukken tot uitdrukking te brengen. ¶

Idodidid (Iddo Drevijn (1983)) & Freeroaming (Efrim Bartosik (1981) & Vanessa Kalkman (1982)) presenteren 'BY BY'. Recentelijk bezochten zij Wit-Rusland, dat bekend staat als de laatst overgebleven dictatuur in Europa. Het grillige politieke klimaat heeft gezorgd voor een negatieve beeldvorming over het land. Maar achter de door het regime zelf opgeworpen façade schuilt een aparte cultuur. 'BY BY' zal de met gevoel voor humor de zwaarmoedigheid doorbreken, met als ultiem doel de bestaande vooroordelen over Wit-Rusland enigszins weg te nemen. ¶


'RECLAIMING THE STREET'
(SHOWROM MAMA (NL)
IN ROT(T)TERDAM)

MAMA (1997) vroeg in een openbare ideeënprijsvraag, gericht op gevestigde en aankomende kunstenaars, architecten, ontwerpers en skateboarders. Voor de prijsvraag werd gezocht naar niet-eerder gepubliceerde en gerealiseerde ideeën voor de (her)inrichting van de stedelijke openbare ruimte, gebaseerd op gebruik door meerdere gebruikersgroepen waarin een plek voor skateboarders is ingericht. Uit alle inzendingen die te zien zijn bij ROT(T)TERDAM, zal een vakjury vier ideeën/ ontwerpen aanwijzen die verder uitgewerkt mogen worden door de inzenders tot een realiseerbaar ontwerp. Het publiek krijgt t/m 30 juni de gelegenheid om een stem op een vijfde favoriet uit te brengen. De vijf beste inzendingen zullen in de eerste week van juli bekend worden gemaakt. De vijf genomineerde plannen zullen vervolgens worden uitgewerkt tot een realiseerbaar ontwerp en een plek krijgen in een publicatie die dit najaar zal verschijnen. Een tweede vakjury zal hier vervolgens het beste idee/ontwerp uit kiezen.¶

MINI$HOP: 'LAZY ONE' (Sharron Hudson-Muller (UK)), VLT (Camilla Ostewechel (NL), Maudy Alferink (NL))

'Lazy ne' produces affordable, wearable women's wear with an individual edge, her style is funky yet feminine, and exclusivity is retained by the production of fast changing collections in small runs. Recently added is the Lazy One-Offs vintage and customized collection, consisting of high-end vintage together with unique hand-made customized pieces ensuring the wearer exclusivity. Designer Sharron Hudson-Muller (1972 ) started her own label in the UK. Eight years ago she started her 'Dutch' label 'Lazy One'. 'Vlt' is a young design studio started in the summer of 2009 by Camilla Oostewechel (1984) and Maudy Alferink (1988). With their fashion they want to startle, surprise and wake-up the beholders. They concentrate on refreshing graphic designs and art projects. Both graduated from Cibap Zwolle. Camilla enhanced her education at ArtEZ Kampen. Maudy stills studies allround fashion styling at Artemis Amsterdam. ¶

Sander Reijgers (1977) & David Elshout (1977) combine approaches about Art & Soccer and reach out, and communicate between different strands in society in 'God is a Player'. 'God is a Player' is about the dispARITY BETWEEN THE HEAD AND GUT. IT FUSES SOCCER AND ART. THEY REPRESENT DIFFERENT STRANDS F society. Soccer taps into a scorching group energy, channelling instincts by body language in a physical experience. Art is still perceived as elitist, is cerebral more, but taps into the same instincts in a culturally more revered manner. ¶

Sander Reijgers abandoned his artistic roots as a painter, to explore other disciplines. He cut up his old paintings to create fashion items, and textile 3d objects. Especially his 'balls' of late, combining sexdoll elements, painting fragments, and sportswear items, trigger subconscious emotions in a visceral way. Sander graduated in 2006 at the HKU. He exhibited at Galerie de Praktijk, de Hallen, Retort, de Vishal, Streetlab, Galerie Kap Pur, Showroom Mama and 3rd Ward, New York. ¶

David Elshout's work is characterized by his loose drawing style, vintage pornography and warfare mixed with ecstatic comic elements. He explores the traditional gender roles and knows to present them in a raw and compelling way. He has a broad range of interest and everything in his work is related to thephysical dimension, energy, different impressions and sensibilities. David is mainly known through his exploits in the former Antistrot collective. He worked in various galleries and museums in New York, Miami, St. Petersburg, Mscow and was nominated for the Kunstbeeld ArtOlive Award in 2006. ¶

A Political Graffitibattle:
Opening 8 June 20.00h and 9 June.

Situated behind the exhibition area of project ROT(T)TERDAM there's a wall that will be used as a (political) piece of art, the 'Wall N Shame', an alternative 'Wall of Fame'. A Wall of Fame is a place where graffiti artist show each other their best pieces. In this 'backroom' graffiti artist Eduard von Lindheim will make a piece that is a critical reflection on politics. Vn Lindheim (1969) wants to inspire the youth for art as well as politics with this project. ¶

Eduard von Lindheim is an artistic jack-of-all-trades, inspiration, connector and initiator of many renewing projects. In the graffiti and art scene he found room to develop his drawing skills and to express his thoughts and doubts about society. ¶

Because of its unpredictable political climate, belarus has a negative foreign image. but hidden behind the regimes self-imposed facade is an extraordinary interesting culture. 'by by' intends to break through the bleakness with a good sense of humor, its ultimate goal being the elimination of the existing prejudices against Belarus. Idd Drevijn, Efrim Bartosik & Vanessa Kalkman all graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam. ¶


'RECLAIMING THE STREET'

MAMA (1997) asked in an open-submission competition - aimed at established and emerging artists, architects and skateboarders - to submit unpublished and unrealised concepts for the (re)organization of urban public space aiming at collective use including skateboarders for producing RECLAIMING THE STREET. ut of all submitted proposals that will be on view at ROT(T)TERDAM a jury will nominate the four best ideas, and a fifth nominee will be chosen by the public. The nominees will be announced in the first week of July. A second jury of experts will nominate the winning design. In 'Reclaiming the street' MAMA envisages a new phase in which youth culture and skateboard culture will be integrated within the public realm. Whereas in the past skateboarders were driven away from public spaces and 'fenced into' purpose-built skate parks, MAMA presents a future wherein Skateboard culture is seen as a starting point for building bridges between all persons wh make use of the public realm. Skateboarders are presented as exemplary 'homo ludens'. ¶

THE LITTLE PEOPLE OF FLORES 2: 'THE PREQUEL' & 'VISIONARY IRAQ'

Het filmproject The Little People of Flores 2 van Benjamin Crotty en Gabriel Abrantes, winnaars van de Workspace Projectprijs 2009, werd geïnspireerd door de archeologische ontdekking van de prehistorische mensensoort Homo Floresiensis, nauw verwant aan de Homo Sapiens. Deze soort leefde zo'n 18.000 jaar geleden op het Indonesische eiland Flores en was slechts één meter groot, een Darwinistisch gevolg van voedselschaarste en een gebrek aan natuurlijke vijanden. De tentoonstellingsruimte wordt met behulp van de voor de film gefabriceerde decors mgebouwd tot filmset, waardoor de toeschouwer zich in dezelfde omgeving bevindt als de film die hij bekijkt.

VISIONARY IRAQ

Gelijktijdig met The Little People of Flores 2 wordt Crotty en Abrantes' film Visionary Iraq getoond. Een film over familieproblematiek die zich tegen de achtergrond van de oorlog in Irak afspeelt. Mede mogelijk gemaakt door ZAAL5- Filmhuis Den Haag, BNG Cultuurfonds en Fonds 1818.

'Prtected'
(Hester Scheurwater (NL))

De toeschouwer wordt door Scheurwater niet uitgenodigd om te kijken, maar meegetrokken in een draaikolk van zelfbewust voyeurisme.  Haar vrouwelijke vormen, waarvan de meer edele vaag herkenbaar door vleeskleurige panties, leggen beslag op het kader van haar foto's waarmee ze alle aandacht voor zichzelf opeist. Haar drang om zichzelf te tonen, doet obsessief aan. Een vrouw wiens wens om in een door de media geschapen ideaal te passen zich vertolkt in een exhibitionisme dat haar met haar camera door alle hoeken van het huis voert. Scheurwater speelt in haar 'fantasiebeelden' met verlangen, seks, angst en luikende agressie.  Haar dagelijks uploaden van nieuwe foto's is een gevecht zonder einde: ze weet dat ze de competitie van vrouwen die zichzelf in de media van hun mooiste kant tonen niet aankan en nooit aan een (vaak digitaal bewerkt) beeld kan voldoen. Naast Protected worden de videowerken 'Poster Girl', 'Heal Me', 'Wanted You' en 'Red Finger Nailpolish' van Hester Scheurwater getoond.

Minishop

Van 27 april t/m 6 juni wordt de minishop verzorgd door het twaalf koppen tellende Rotterdamse kunstenaarscollectief Lastplak. De grote opening van de LSTPLK-Shop is op 30 april tijdens Koninginnedag. T-shirts, Prints, Schilderijen, Poppen en meer, waarvan een gedeelte door deze groep van schilders met verschillende achtergronden en stijlen speciaal ontworpen is voor de minishop.

Trash & Treasures

Een garagesale in combinatie met een feestje. Beginnende kledinglabels, winkels met oude stock, mensen die hun kledingkast opruimen, kunst, muziek en meer moois. Begint om 21:00, verkoop loopt rond 24:00/01:00 over in het feestje. Filmscreenings ism De Zwarte Hond and the Rotterdam Collective film series. Een filmserie gepresenteerd door the Rotterdam Collective and DZH Architects die een ander perspectief toont van alledaagse issues, andere plaatsen, onbekende mensen, laced with some great entertainment.

THE LITTLE PEOPLE OF FLORES 2:
' THE PREQUEL' & 'VISIONARY IRAQ'

The filmproject The Little People of Flores 2 by Benjamin Crotty and Gabriel Abrantes, winners of the Workspace Projectaward 2009, was inspired by the archeological discovery of the prehistoric human species Homo Floresiensis, closely related to the Homo Sapiens. This species lived around 18.000 years ago on the Indonesian island of Flores and was just one metre tall, a Darwinistic consequence of foodshortage and a lack of natural enemies. The exhibitionspace will be transformed, with the help of props and set pieces, into a filmset, where the viewer will find himself in the same scenery as the film he is watching, thus participating in the experience.

VISIONARY IRAQ

Simultaneously Crotty and Abrantes' film Visionary Iraq will be shown. A film about family issues around the Iraqi conflict. Sponsored by ZAAL5- Filmhuis Den Haag, BNG Cultuurfonds and Fonds 1818.

'Prtected'
(Hester Scheurwater (NL))

In the case of Hester Scheurwater's photo's the spectator is not invited to watch, but is drawn into a maelstrom of selfconscious voyeurism. Her female forms, of which the vital parts are slightly obscured by flesh-colored pantyhose, seize the frame of her pictures and daw all the attention to herself. The urge to exhibit herself seems almost obsessive. A woman whose wish to fit to an ideal created by the media is translated into an exhibitionism that leads her through all the rooms in her house with a camera in her hand. Scheurwater's 'fantasyimages' play with desire, sex, fear and slumbering agression. Her dayly uploads of new photo's is a fight without an end; she knows she can never handle the competition of women showing their best sides in the massmedia, and never fit to an often digitally alterated image. Besides 'Protected' Scheurwater's videoworks 'Poster Girl', 'Heal Me', 'Wanted You' and 'Red Finger Nailpolish' will be shown.

Op zaterdag 6 maart openen we ons project tijdens de Rotterdamse Museumnacht van 20:00-02:00 uur met het programma ROT(T)TERDAM (X)XL I LOVE YOU 100% ROT(T)TERDAM. Voor een periode van een jaar zullen we onder deze noemer een afwisselende programmering organiseren in de vorm van tentoonstellingen, performances, bijeenkomsten, lezingen, manifestaties, feestjes en al het andere wat de kunst te bieden heeft. ROT(T)TERDAM bestaat uit 3 tentoonstellingsruimtes, de kantine BEATBURGER met twee ruimtes, een Work in progress ruimte, een Minishop en het kantoor van Roodkapje/ROT(T)TERDAM. Meedoen kan! 'RECONSTRuCT'
(aShkaN hONaRVaR (NL))

Ashkan Honarvar (1980, Iran) vluchtte op zevenjarige leeftijd samen met zijn ouders uit Iran naar Nederland. In 2007 studeerde hij af in de richting Illustratie aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. In Nederland leerde Honarvar over de Holocaust. Aangezien de Iranese autoriteiten de Holocaust ontkennen, was het voor Honarvar een niet te bevatten gebeurtenis. Honarvar heeft sindsdien veel onderzoek gedaan naar verschillende genociden, waarbij vooral de marteltechnieken van de agressor hem fascineren. ok de motivatie van de agressor intrigeert hem. Uit zijn onderzoek blijkt dat genociden vaak succesvol waren door systematiek. Met een systeem en logica kun je de werkelijkheid verzachten. Honarvar werkt zelf ook in series. Hij vindt het belangrijk om een systeem te hanteren en te archiveren. In Faces verzamelt Honarvar beelden die in relatie staan tot lichamelijke vervormingen en het verliezen van een identiteit. De gruwelijkheden krijgen in het werk van Honarvar een esthetische verbetering. Hij werkt met zwart-wit beelden, die afstand scheppen tussen de gruwelijke beelden en de kunstenaar zelf. Naast Faces presenteren we de werken Finding Hitler en Blank, en werk in ontwikkeling. Finding Hitler is een anatomische zoektocht naar een universeel symbool van het kwaad. Door vermenging van lichaamsdelen ontstaat er een vervreemding die de kijker nieuwsgierig maakt om het kwade te ontdekken. Blank is een zoektocht naar identiteit en een gevecht voor vrijheid. WORk iN PROGRESS: 'my SPaCE, yOuR SPaCE, OuR SPaCE:
my SPaCE' (SaBRiNa BaSTEN (NL))

Basten streeft in haar werk naar het totaal omvatten van de toeschouwer, naar het volbrengen van een schok, die aanspraak doet op een aspect dat Basten het instinctmatige wil noemen. Ze is geïnteresseerd in de zogenaamde grens tussen het instinctmatige en het beschaafde. Dit onderzoek krijgt vorm in ruimtevullende installaties, waarin Basten door tactiele en beeldende ingrepen het ruimtelijk bewustzijn van de beschouwer wil versterken en hem of haar een totaalervaring wil bieden, die zowel de zintuigen als de rede aanspreekt. In MY SPACE, YOUR SPACE, OUR SPACE: MY SPACE onderzoekt Basten dit op een publieke en toegankelijke wijze. In een tijdframe van tweeënhalve maand zal Basten een ruimte aan De Meent in gebruik nemen. In deze ruimte wil zij continue, dagelijks, aan verschillende installaties en tentoonstellingsconcepten werken. Daar komt bij dat de aanwezigheid van de toeschouwer vaak tot een essentieel onderdeel van Bastens werkproces of uiteindelijke werk wordt. Deze open werkwijze geeft een breder inzicht in de betekenis van hedendaagse kunst, en biedt een toegankelijk kader om mensen hierin te betrekken. Eens per maand zal zij een opening houden. De BEATBURGER is onze kantine waar je tijdens openingstijden van onze programma's en tentoonstellingen een biertje kan drinken en onder andere heerlijke vegaburgers kan eten. Maandelijks zijn hier onder andere filmavonden, bingoavonden, rommelmarkten, Brakkebreakfasten en performances te zien.

miNiShOP

De minishop is een kleine winkel die elke maand gerund word door een toonaangevende ontwerper/kunstenaar die zijn spullen verkoopt en deze winkel runt. Tegendraads zal de aftrap van de minishop geven met hun eigen ontworpen T-shirts en gadgets. Tijdens de museumnacht zullen de boys van Tegendraads (collectieven Dstruct en Wot Nxt)hun welbekende muziekmoves laten horen. Een minishop met een minifeestje? http://www.tegendraadsshop.nl

On Saturday the 6th of March we open our project ROT(T)TERDAM during the Rotterdam Museum Night from 20:00-02:00 hours with the program ROT(T)TERDAM (X)XL I LOVE YOU 100%. ROT(T)TERDAM. For a year we will organize a diverse program under the name ROT(T)TERDAM that exists of exhibitions, performances, gatherings, lectures, manifestations, parties and everything else art has to offer. ROT(T)TERDAM exists of three exhibition spaces, the canteen BEATBURGER with two spaces, a Work in progress space, a Minishop and the office of Roodkapje/ ROT(T)TERDAM. Participating is possible! EXTRA: On Sunday the 7th of March from 12:00-15:00 hours we organize an edition of the Brakkebreakfastclub in the BEATBURGER for the Rotterdam Museum Night hangovers. De Jas en De Maert from Roodkapje are responsible for this breakfast's success, with its unlimited pancakes, cakes, fried eggs and much more for a mere €7,50. There's no better remedy to or a start of your hangover. Nothing left = nothing left and full = full. The Brakkebreakfastclub is a permanent part of the program ROT(T)TERDAM. We're looking forward to seeing you!

'RECONSTRuCT'

Ashkan Honarvar (1980, Iran) fled from Iran to the Netherlands together with his parents when he was seven years old. In 2007 he graduated in Illustration at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. In the Netherlands, Honarvar learnt about the Holocaust. As Iranese authorities deny the Holocaust, this was an inconceivable phenomenon to him. Since then, Honarvar did a lot of research into different genocides. In his search, he is especially fascinated by the torture techniques used by the aggressor. Also, the aggressors' motivation fascinates him. From his research it seems that genocides were often successful because of systems. Using systems and logic, the truth can be softened. Honarvar also works in series. It is important for him to use systems and archives. In Faces, Honarvar collects images relating to bodily deformations and loss of identity. The awful deformations are given aesthetical improvement. He works with black and white images to create a distance between the horrible images and himself as an artist. Next to Faces, we present Finding Hitler and Blank, and work in progress. Finding Hitler is an anatomical search for a universal symbolization of evil. By mixing up body parts, an alienated view is created, which makes the viewer curious to find evil. Blank is a search into identity and a fight for freedom. Honarvars work is topical, shocking, vulnerable and beautiful at the same time. http://www.ashkanhonarvar.com

Basten's aim in her work is to totally grasp the audience, to create a shock that focuses on an aspect that Basten calls the instinctive. She is interested in the so-called line between instinctive and civilized. This research takes shape in space filling installations, in which Basten wants to strengthen the spatial conscience of the audience by tactile and expressive interventions. In this way she wants to give the audience a complete experience, one that addresses both senses and reason. In MY SPACE, YOUR SPACE, OUR SPACE: MY SPACE Basten examines this in a public and accessible way. For three and a half months Basten will occupy a space on De Meent. In this space she wants to work continually, daily, with different installations and exhibition concepts. The presence of audience is an essential part of Bastens working process and final works. This open method of working gives better insight in the meaning of contemporary art and offers an accessible frame for people to be involved. Tegendraads will do the kick-off with their self-designed T-shirts and gadgets. LIVING IN A WORLD DMINATED BY THIS VAST AND COMPLEX VISUAL LANGUAGE, WE CAN'T ESCAPE THE INFLUENCE OF THE IMAGES THAT SURRUND US. Being aware or not, it's power over the choices we make, seems inevitable. As all seems to be based on the images we perceive and the convictions we crave, we capture what's given us and use what, we believe, we need. RICHE EN PULPE® (2001) (Marion M. Morrison, RIFFRAFF, Gérard Konings, Ma-li-cious®, a.o.) attempts to unveil this behavior and question it's influences on how we interpret this ever changing religion. By reviewing the boundaries of our visual culture RICHE EN PULPE® creates an archive of reference for reading THIS VAST AND CMPLEX RELIGIN WE CALL VISUAL CULTURE. This so we learn to see through it's facades, through all that pretends to be something else and distracts us from it's real purpose. So we can regain control over what we perceive.
